Gracie was a Godly woman who took in my father-in-law from childhood and mothered him after his own mother had died. She was like a grandmother to my wife. My children and I were very close to her as well. During a financially difficult time in our lives in which we became homeless, Gracie graciously took us in until we could afford to buy a home of our own. While living at Gracie’s home we had some of the best times ever, becoming closer than ever and making memories that last. I wrote “Gracie’s Home” both to honor and remember Gracie and to show the love Christ has for each of us who walk with him, who show love and grace to one another.
Her name was Gracie and his folks were gone
She took him in and he called her mom
When he was grown, I married his daughter
And for a while we were without a home
And she took us in
Love and grace was shown
And for a while we shared
Gracie’s home
After some time, we bought our home
We said goodbye but our family bond stayed strong
But then one day we got the call
It’s not looking good, Gracie’s in the hospital
Our family gathered around
Love and grace was shown
And for a while it was
Gracie’s home
We said our last goodbyes while holding her hand
Then angels carried her to the Promised Land
And Jesus took her in
Love and grace was shown
She’ll live forever in Heaven
Gracie’s home, Gracie’s home
