Daniel James: Bio

Daniel James

Daniel James is a Christian Country songwriter and recording artist from the small western town of Cottonwood, California.
He has a passion for spreading the gospel of Jesus Christ through his music and songwriting.
Several of his songs have done well with Christian radio across the U.S. and overseas and he continues to write and record newer originals.

"I want my music to not only change the world for good today, but to keep making it better for years to come," says Daniel.

Daniel is married with four boys and a girl, his wife and children often being the inspiration for his original songs.

Daniel James

Daniel James Martinusen was born on May 1, 1967, one of seven children born to parents Daniel Lloyd Martinusen and Eleanor Eunice Martinusen in Redding, California. Daniel's father is also a singer/songwriter who once used the stage name "Dan Martin" in a country band that travelled across the U.S. and Canada when Daniel was a child.
"With such a long last name," says Daniel, "as a recording artist I thought it best to use my first and middle name."
Daniel's grandmother on his mother's side, Rose Emma Hodges was a church pianist and Sunday school teacher who passed on her faith and talents to her children and grand-children.
"I learned to play the piano on my grandmother's old piano," said Daniel, "and my dad gave me my first guitar."
Daniel's grandmother on his father's side was also an accomplished vocalist, while his grandfather was a guitarist.
Two of Daniel James' sisters, Lisa Scroggins of Roseville, Oregon and Giovanna Cox of Sacramento, California are in full time ministry, spreading the gospel of Jesus Christ. Both are accomplished musicians and vocalists, leading worship, writing and arranging songs and teaching the gospel.
"I can think of no greater legacy to leave for our children," says Daniel, "than one of faith in Jesus Christ."
